Find your shaft

1. Which clubs do you want a new shaft for?

Choose more than one to match your woods. The same shaft and flex through your woods gives a consistent feel. Choose all that apply.

2. Who made the club head you are fitting the shaft to?

Adjustable drivers and woods use a tip adapter (sleeve) made for their brand, so the shaft must match your club head.

3. Which Callaway adapter does your club take?

Only if you chose “Callaway” for question 2.

Callaway uses different sleeves for different club families. Check the model name on your club, or the sleeve itself.

4. Which Ping adapter does your club take?

Only if you chose “Ping” for question 2.

Ping uses different sleeves for different club families. Check the model name on your club, or the sleeve itself.

5. What is your driver swing speed?

From a launch monitor or a swing speed radar. Don't know it? No problem: we will work it out another way.

6. How far does a typical drive go?

Only if you chose “I don't know” for question 5.

Carry plus roll on a good, typical drive. Not your best one!

7. Which sounds most like you?

Only if you chose “I don't know” for question 5 and “Not sure” for question 6.

Your best guess is fine. You can refine it later with a launch monitor.

8. How would you describe your swing tempo?

A quick change of direction at the top loads the shaft harder, so it can suit a firmer flex.

9. How high do your drives usually fly?

Ball flight tells us which launch profile to look for.

10. What is your most common miss off the tee?

A shaft that is too stiff tends to cost height and push the ball right (for a right-hander); one that is too soft, the opposite.

11. What do you want most from a new shaft?

We use this to rank the shafts that fit you.

How the quiz works

The quiz works the way a club fitter thinks, in three steps:

  1. Your flex. Swing speed is the best single guide to flex. If you don't know yours, the quiz estimates it from how far you drive the ball, or from how you describe your game. It then adjusts for your tempo, ball flight and usual miss, and tells you when you sit between two flexes.
  2. Your adapter. Adjustable drivers and woods take a sleeve made for their brand, and some brands use different sleeves for different club families. The quiz asks only the questions it needs to pick the right one.
  3. Your shaft. Every shaft in the Pro Shop that comes in your flex and fits your club is ranked against your priorities, from distance and accuracy to feel and value. You get the exact option, with its SKU and price.

What we ask, and why

QuestionWhy it matters
Which clubsDriver and fairway wood shafts differ in length and weight. Matching your woods keeps the feel consistent.
Your club makeThe tip adapter must match your club head, or the shaft will not fit.
Swing speed or distanceThe main guide to flex. Faster swings bend the shaft more and need a firmer one.
TempoA quick, forceful transition loads the shaft harder than a smooth one at the same speed.
Ball flight and missLow fades can mean a shaft is too stiff; high hooks that it is too soft. They also guide the launch profile to look for.
Your priorityDecides which of the shafts that fit you ranks first.

Frequently asked questions

Is a quiz as good as a club fitting?

No, but it is a very good start. A fitting on a launch monitor measures exactly how you load the shaft. The quiz uses the same rules of thumb fitters start from, and tells you when you are close to the line between two flexes.

Why do you need to know my club make?

Because a new shaft for an adjustable driver or fairway wood comes with a tip adapter, a sleeve made for that brand's hosel. Choose the wrong one and the shaft will not screw into your club head. If your club has a glued, non-adjustable hosel, choose the raw option and have a club builder fit it.

What if I don't know my swing speed?

Choose "I don't know" and the quiz will estimate it from your typical drive, or from how you describe your game. Your results then suggest how to confirm it. The shaft flex finder turns an exact number into a flex.

Do I need the same shaft in my driver and woods?

It is not essential, but most golfers benefit from the same shaft family and flex through their woods: the clubs then feel and fly like a set. Choose more than one club in the first question and the quiz matches them for you.

Do you store my answers?

No. Your answers live only in the address of your results page, which is why you can bookmark or share it. There is no sign-up and no email.

How do you choose which shafts to recommend?

Only by fit: flex, adapter, your priorities and availability. We earn a commission if you buy through our links, but it never changes the order of the results.
